Kinda sucked! Her face showed no emotion and all she did was moving her arm up and down. Also, she looked like she was reading the lyrics or something..duuh pretty mediocre as her songs.. I mean Touch My Body was more upbeat than Migrate and her vocals are a bit shaky and pitchy...
I think she did good, but not great.
Vocal wise she was fine, but I didn't like that she stood still most of the time. Other then that good performances.

Her pitch was all over the place but she still sounded good. Her voice has really gone through tons of damage; she is constantly cracking and struggling to hit notes. But with that said that was a good live vocal compared to most of the current singers who lack real vocal chops.
She's looking good too. The last time I saw her on TV she had really chunky thighs and couldn't pull off those short hot pants or whatever they are called. Looks like she lost a lot of weight.

What do you expect though? This is Mariah Carey NOT Madonna or Janet. Mariah came into the Biz to Sing, she's a pure vocalist NOT a Dancer.
I think both performaces were Great. She wasn't like sometimes doing her 'Model/Pose Performace'.
She gets extra credit for changing that damn hair of hers, she was sporting that damn blonde/straight hair since 03 and it was tired some.
Ostiboi Both songs are 'Emotion/showing' songs what in the world are you going on about? If you think 'TMB' is more upbeat then Migrate then your on something, I can tell your a MC hater to begin with.

I could care less about how she looked, she is not the star she once was. I thought she was miming the first verso of Touch My Body. Her voice is all over the place and the urban sounds she is striving for isn't working. She relies on her background singers way too much. I miss the old Mariah.

here we have Mariah Carey, a 40+ year old parading in nothing else but underwear, with songs with very very deep lyrics about touching her body, that can NOT dance or be a performer on stage..

TMB was not lipped. Its called harmonising with the background singers.
She was nervous as hell in the 1st song.
Her higher range was not 100%, but still great. Noticed when she introduced T-Pain, just talking loud, it didn't seem all right.

No I think she was miming the first verse. It sounds a lot better than the second one. Why would she be nervous? She has been performing for a long time.
can't wait for her album... thanks ali for posting... these were nice performances... she definitely has damaged somewhat of her vocals... and yes she stood still too obviously most of the times... but her signature move is moving that hand so nothin you can do about it ppl... and yes... she still rocks because she sang really hard songs and harmonized great with the backups... and i do think she should be nervous for trying to sing something so hard live and no that's not lipsync people... she has a diva pride that big so why would she use lipsync on SNL
wtf happened to hear voice? she can barely sing. first verse of tmb was definitely lipped. well, at least she looked good.
First and most important of all, the audio and video playback are not 100% synchronized. I personally enjoyed both performances and they were great taking into account that it was Mariah's first time performing these songs. However, I didn't like that Mariah did not really sing the second verse of "Touch My Body" and she seemed to not have sang at all the part right before the high-belting part of TMB. Also, I am not sure if she lip-synced the last part of "Migrate." I watched the performances on TV and I was convinced that she sang it live but after watching this video several times, I do not know what to think.
Very stale, boring performances. It's a shame that Janet had the flu.
That's the only reason why Mariah was on. Janet couldn't make it for the taping due to illness.

Migrate is OK, but it's not going to be in Hot 100 charts outside the US. Let's face it - it's nothing special.
um, touch my body is real easy on the vocals, so why the hell is she struggling so much?? i wonder if she's losing her voice.
yeah, she lost weight, and thank god for a slightly diff hair style, but overall i'm not impressed like i used to be. an this is from someone who's purchased all of her albums.

FYI Mariah is not even 40 years old. I don't think you need to compare her to madonna. Look at madonna's video for hung up, you could almost see her vajay-jay. She didn't sound amazing to me, but you gotta give her credit, it's one of the first times she sang these songs live.
Mariah is a singer, not a dancer, she'll never be like janet or madonna. she's got the voice, not the moves.
Migrate and Touch My Body don't have deep lyrics, it's just about having fun.

Being a "Diva" doesn't excuse the fact that she couldn't talk her way through both of these songs. I wonder if her hoarse voice and her slim body have to do with her weight loss methods...
Mediocre at best. Big Mariah fan but both performances looked cheap and unrehearsed. On a positive note however, at least Mariah is looking amazing. Her figure is in the best shape it has been.
I am finally willing to agree that Touch My Body is utter nonsense. She's a bit old to be making dumb references to YouTube and the like. I initially had it on the same level as 'It's Like That' i.e. no where near Mariah's best but functional but this live performance confirms that she's just not fun enough to pull it off.
The dancers were not needed.
She better have some trick comparable to 'We Belong Together' up her sleeve if E=MC2 is to fly.

Migrate is the type of song where I bet it sounds AMAZING in-studio, compared to live. Can't wait to here that one.
I saw Mariah in concert for her last tour, and the woman can still sing and hit those extremely high notes. She hasn't lost it.

seems like mariah is still trying desperately to find a way to market herself. she has one of the most amazing ranges of any singer in our generation, yet she stands on stage and bounces up and down while sort of singing mundane and clichéd hip hop lyrics. i just miss the true talents of this woman being highlighted. instead of being dumbed down to fit into the most popular selling genre of this decade.
Vocally, she was off tune and she could not dance so how does that make an "amazing" performance???
I don't agree witht he posts saying her performances were "great" and "amazing." Both performances were simply mediocre. Mariah is a singer and not a dancer so I understand why she could not dance but the material (i.e. lyrics) in both songs are different from her usual style so I can understand why she had problems staying in tune.

I wish Janet wasn't sick. SNL would've been a lot better. Mimi needs more rehearsal time. Obviously Janet mimes all of her songs, but its a given since her dance routines are so fierce.
MIGRATE is amazing. I'm sooo in love with Mariah all over again. She is the only queen out there. That joint is pure fire. it has tocked in my head like glue.... i agree with all of you she is gonna be the reigning queen of 2008 and in history a legend. Expect 18th an 19th #1s.
